Help Coach a Child Campaign
A letter from the Campaign Chairman...
I’m David McDowell and I am pleased to be this year’s Coach a Child Campaign Chairman. I was born the year the Prattville YMCA was organized and my dad was one of those who helped organize the Y. You could say I literally “grew up” with the Y. I was involved with the Indian Guide program, played Y sports, went to the YMCA Values Conferences and was involved with the YMCA Youth Legislature. These were some of the greatest learning experiences I had growing up. I now serve on the Board of Managers at the Prattville YMCA and was a past Board Chairman. Our annual support campaign is one of the more important YMCA events we conduct each year. It helps level the field so every young person can have these same great learning experiences.
The funds raised from the Coach a Child Campaign will go to the Prattville YMCA scholarship fund to provide assistance to those who could not otherwise afford a Y membership and/or its programs. In this brochure you can see the different giving levels for the Coach a Child Campaign.
Our YMCA programs teach young people important values such as Caring, Honesty, Respect, Responsibility, and Faith, through a variety of fun and rewarding activities. You simply can’t put a price on strengthening the character of a child. We strive to not turn a child away based on an inability to pay. This campaign, with your contribution, will help ensure that will never happen.
The YMCA’s success will always be measured by the lives we touch. I ask of you, like me, to give to this campaign so we can continue with our heritage of providing help to those in need.
Thank you,
David McDowell
Campaign Chairman
Our Goal
The goal this year is $80,000. Through the Coach a Child Campaign 100% of your contribution stays right here in Prattville and Autauga County and the Prattville YMCA. There is no surer way to better the lives of our neighbors, friends, community and fellow YMCA members than to contribute to the Y’s annual campaign.
The Prattville YMCA’s promise to our community is with your support that no person will be turned away due to an inability to pay. Last year we failed on that promise. Because of the loss of 22% from our United Way funding and a level campaign fund there were fewer dollars for new requests for financial help. Even so we helped 6,775 people with a cost of $362,432 in direct financial assistance.
So please contribute to this year’s Coach a Child Campaign and help disadvantaged children experience the YMCA. The YMCA offers hundreds of ways for a child to have fun, meet friends, learn, be challenged, and grow physically, mentally and spiritually. We provide summer camps, soccer, baseball, swimming lessons, gymnastics, and much more. Many children here in Prattville never get that chance, but with your help we can give them that opportunity.
